Loop Classic X Fly Reel

Loop Classic X Fly Reel

Some fly reels are about keeping things simple. The Loop Classic X is about being ready for the moment when everything changes.

Built on the heritage of Loop's original Classic reel, the Classic X adds a 2.5:1 multiplier retrieve that recovers more than twice as much line with every turn of the handle compared to a traditional single-action reel. When a fish turns and starts running toward you, that extra line recovery can make the difference between staying connected and watching your line go slack.

And despite the added speed, the Classic X keeps the clean, compact character that made the original Classic such a favourite.

Speed When You Need It

The biggest advantage of the Classic X is simple: line recovery.

A traditional single-action reel gives you one revolution of the spool for every turn of the handle. The Classic X's multiplier system gives you 2.5 turns of the spool for every turn of the handle.

That becomes particularly useful when a fish changes direction and comes straight back at you.

Instead of frantically stripping line by hand, you can recover line quickly with the reel and keep tension on the fish.

It's also handy when you're working a large river and need to quickly pick up line between casts or when a fish makes a sudden change of direction.

Built for Serious Fishing

The Classic X combines its multiplier retrieve with a Power Matrix Drag System, giving you smooth, dependable drag performance when a fish decides it's time to leave.

The frame is machined from lightweight aircraft-grade aluminium, while carbon-fibre braking components and marine-grade waterproof seals help keep the reel light, durable, and protected in demanding conditions.

There's also an audio control switch, allowing you to choose between the signature Classic click or silent operation.

So while the Classic X has considerably more technology than its predecessor, it still feels like a Loop reel.

#8–11: The Big One

The #8–11 Classic X is the largest reel in the Classic X family and is designed for 13.5–15 ft double-handed rods, big rivers, and powerful fish.

This is the reel we'd look at when you're fishing:

• large salmon and steelhead
• big rivers with two-handed rods
• heavy sink tips and shooting heads
• situations where rapid line recovery really matters

When a big fish turns downstream—or worse, comes screaming back at you—the multiplier retrieve gives you a serious advantage.
